The structure of an EMDR Intensive is typically customized to the client’s needs but often contains the following elements:
· Pre-Intensive Assessment: Before the intensive, the therapist conducts a comprehensive intake session to gather the client’s history, assess goals, and determine suitability for the intensive format.
· Preparation: The client is oriented to the EMDR process, coping strategies are introduced, and a treatment plan is collaboratively developed.
· Intensive Sessions: Over the course of several hours or days, clients participate in extended EMDR sessions, allowing for deeper and uninterrupted processing of traumatic material.
· Integration and Follow-Up: After the intensive, follow-up sessions may be scheduled to support the client as they integrate their experiences and apply insights to daily life. Additional resources, such as journaling prompts or mindfulness exercises, may be provided.
